Passion: The Untold Stories

Passion Website CoverPassion! Passion! Passion!

The book that almost didn’t get written.

Well, it got written and is now published. In brief, the book follows the relationship of political consultant, Michael Klein, and his pesky actress neighbor, Gigi. The moment these two kids meet, they clash. I’m talking war and pettiness galore. Enemies? Psh! These two give a new definition to the word. So you can imagine their horror when they find out that they are attracted to each other.

Tell me that you’ve read it. No? Why not? I know you’ll like it, but if you don’t trust me then Go and READ IT for yourself lol. But make sure you read it before you continue reading this article because we’re gonna have some spoilers in here. I don’t want to ruin the book for you.

If you’ve read the book, then here are a few more details that will put the book in context for you.

1: I ALMOST DIDN’T WRITE THIS BOOK

After Obsession (the first book in this series), I got a little down since some people didn’t like the characters. It happens and I don’t begrudge those readers. I mean not everyone will like the same things. Besides that Freddie and Lex were odd ducks… their personalities were not for everyone. But I won’t lie and say that the unfavorable reviews didn’t get me a little down.

For a minute there I thought of just shutting down the series and doing something else. But after thinking about it for a while, I realized that I was focusing on the wrong thing. Though there were some people who just weren’t into the book, there were many more who loved it. Me included. I enjoyed writing Obsession, and couldn’t wait to write the rest of the series. In fact, I was (and still am) so excited that I got covers for the whole series made in advance. That’s how invested I was. It wouldn’t be fair to myself or to readers who are looking forward to the rest of the series to just stop. So I decided to write the book anyway.

And I’m glad I did.

I had a lot of fun writing about Michael and Gigi. These two’s Tom and Jerry relationship had me laughing to myself like a crazy person as I wrote. They were fun. I hope you thought so too. Don’t forget to let me know what you thought of them when you leave your review.

2: MICHAEL’S BROTHER GABRIEL IS ACTUALLY GAY

Michael KleinAh! You’d forgotten that Michael even had a brother, right? Even though he didn’t make an appearance in the book and was only briefly mentioned, Gabriel exists. He’s an architect with a heart of gold. That’s why he’s out in Venezuela trying to build houses. He’s also gay. I know, I know… how radical! But hear me out… I’m trying to make an effort to be more diverse about the characters I write. In future don’t be surprised to see Gabriel back in the States and looking for a relationship. Yes, that means that I will try out MM fiction. Are you ready for it or did you just give me a side-eye? Let me know what you think.

3: WHY GIGI WON’T DUMP HER MOTHER

Lisa ChampionY’all know this lady called Lisa, right? She is a mess. Can you imagine having a mother like her? Yeesh! But mothers like this exist. Most people in Gigi’s position would cut contact with her and I know some of you were wondering why Gigi still gives her space. Well, she’s family. Think of it this way; Gigi has no father, no sibling and her grandmother (the person who really cared for her) is dead. Lisa is her only blood relation. She might be a devil but she’s the only one Gigi has. I’m not sure that there’s a line that she could cross that would make Gigi cut her off. But who knows… now that Gigi has a new family she may start to realize just how toxic her mother is. I know y’all would’ve liked me to give the two some closures but sometimes in life people just stick with family even if they’re crappy.

4: GIGI’S FATHER IS STILL OUT THERE SOMEWHERE

In the book, I didn’t say much about Gigi’s father. Lisa really doesn’t talk about him because he hasn’t been in either of their lives since Gigi was born. But he exists. I thought of bringing him back in but figured that Gigi already has enough drama with her mother, we don’t need a deadbeat dad stirring that messy pot anymore.

5: MORE OF THE HEIRS WILL GET BOOKS

We’ve still got three heirs without books; Ari, Red and Logan. Yes, I plan to give them happy endings too so please don’t tune out of the series. Y’all know me; once I start a series I work on wrapping it up no matter how long it takes me. But I’ll try to make sure the books get released fast. If you’re not already in my Book Club, join it so that you can get immediate updates once the books are out.

6: DAVIDA MIGHT GET HER OWN STORY

Davida is an interesting character. Her kind of loyalty doesn’t come every day and she’s been friends with Gigi for over ten years. I think she deserves a story. She’s already married and has one kid, but that doesn’t mean that the drama ends just because you’re married. What do you think about a story that explores after-marriage drama?

7: MICHAEL BOLTON’S ‘MURDER MY HEART’ WROTE THIS BOOK

Yo! I am a fan of Michael Bolton. He’s one of the earliest singers I remember being amazed by. That husky voice… Lord! That husky voice. I confess that I have quite a few of his songs saved up for rainy days, but for this book ‘Murder my Heart’ was my jam. The song is almost a decade old but it still works. I mean, listen to the song for yourself then tell me that you can’t come up with a romance novel for it.

Obsession: 7 Things You Didn’t Know

Obsession Website CoverHave you read my 18th published book, Obsession? No? Really? Why? You should. You really should. Obsession is one of those books that started out in my head as a short story but quickly evolved until it bore a full novel. It’s based on one of my favorite tropes, best-friend’s little sister.

Freddie has known Lex for over fifteen years and in all that time she never realized that he actually liked her. Imagine her shock when he confesses to it after saving her from her cheating ex-boyfriend. The confession is made when they’re drunk and what ensues is a night of… um… passion. You see where this is headed, right? Seriously, you haven’t read it? Go and READ IT. If you’ve read it, then here are a few more delicious tidbits that you didn’t know while reading the book.

1: THE PREVIOUS REINCARNATION OF BAD COP GAVE THE IDEA

Ari LathamYou remember Bad Cop, right? The book I published before this one. If you were riding with me when I wrote its first reincarnation then you’ll remember that Jasmine/Brandy also had an older brother, Kevin, who Lucas was afraid of offending. When creating the new reincarnation of Bad Cop, I ditched the whole older brother and instead made Jasmine an only-child. Still the concept of having a hostile older brother was intriguing. For those who have older brothers, you likely know that they can be very unreasonable when it comes to their friends trying to get with their baby sister, and Ari is no exception. He is hilariously/annoyingly nosy when it comes to his sister and his best-friend’s relationship. I loved him. 😂 😂 😂

2: LEX SHOULD’VE BEEN QUIETER

Lex BishopLex is a quiet guy, a really quiet guy. He doesn’t talk if he doesn’t have to. In fact sometime he doesn’t even talk when he needs to. When I was writing this book on Wattpad, a few readers complained that if they were with a guy like him they’d be so irritated mostly because you have to guess what he is thinking most of the time. I just laughed. Why? Because I’d even toned him down.

If I had my way, Lex would be nearly mute. One word sentences? Please! I was going to make him talk with his eyebrows lol. Lex is based on one of my male friends who is also not a talker. At first when you’re with him, it’s uncomfortable because you feel like he doesn’t like you. But once you get to know him, you realize it’s just his personality. Also, often such people are excellent listeners and secret-keepers.

3: FREDDIE’S JOB IS INSIPIRED BY LANIE FROM CASTLE

Freddie Latham.jpgWho was addicted to Castle, the mystery TV series? Me too. ❤️ I can’t even describe how invested I was in that series. Of course, Beckett was my favorite character, but Lanie, the medical examiner, held a special part in my heart. I always wanted to write her story. Freddie is my way of doing that. Of course Freddie doesn’t lead her own autopsies yet, but in the future she will (in my head lol). Since Obsession is part of a series of five book, I’ll probably drops hints of what she’s doing in future books.

4: THE BISHOP FAMILY WERE TO PLAY A BIGGER PART IN THE STORY

You didn’t get to know most of Lex’s family in the book so let me tell you about them. You already know, Andrew, right? He’s the head of the family, stinking rich, blatantly adulterous and a real douche-bag. So you can see why his wife, Nancy Bishop, might turn into an alcoholic. Nancy is pushing seventy and is always drunk. She isn’t sure who she hates more, her husband or the bastard son (Lex) who he shoved into their house after he had an affair. Nancy has two daughters, Eve and Ruth.

After seeing what their mother has gone through, there is no way the two girls could possibly like their father. For Eve, it’s even worse because despite all her hard work in the family business, her father still refuses to recognize her and is constantly scheming to hand the business over to the aforementioned bastard son, who has never even worked in the company. So if you see her being a bitch to Lex don’t be too hard on her.

5: IT COULD’VE HAD MORE SUSPENSE

You know how Wesley is crazy? I was going to make him even crazier. The guy has the potential to be a real psycho, and considering his profession, it would have made it even sweeter. I even thought of making him a kind of serial killer with women disappearing whenever they get close to him. I know! I’m crazy lol.

6: ALL THE OTHER MEN WILL HAVE THEIR OWN BOOKS

Lex is the (forced) heir of The Bishop Group of Hotels. You met his four friends in the book; Ari, Michael, Jared/Red and Michael. They are all heirs to their families. Some have taken on the mantle, others don’t want the title like Lex. You’ll meet them all in the course of this year as they try to find their own happy-ever-afters. Are you ready for them? Don’t forget to sign up for my Book Club (if you haven’t already) to receive updates on the books and notifications on when they’ll be released.

7: SUGGI’S COVER OF SIREN BY SUNMI WROTE THIS BOOK

Have you heard of suggi? He’s an unsigned YouTube singer who has his own songs but also does covers for popular mainstream and kpop songs. You should check him out if you haven’t met him yet. Anyway, I’m addicted to his covers. Usually, I don’t listen to kpop. In fact, I didn’t even finish listening to the original song, Siren by Sunmi, but there’s just something about suggi’s voice that makes me think of romance. Here’s his cover of Siren.

Work In Progress

Yes, yes, I know. You’re all wondering where my next book is? Have I quit the writing game?

No! No, I haven’t. I’m just really lazy these days. Also there are so many ideas swimming in my head that I tend to get distracted really easily. But this month, I promise I will drop something new.

So what’s this something new? It’s called Obsession. If you follow me on Wattpad, then you already know about this book and have been reading along as I write. The Male Lead of the book is Lex Bishop. He’s kind of a recluse (okay, strike the recluse). He doesn’t speak much and tends to fade into the background. In fact it’s a wonder that he even managed to make 4 friends (Ari, Michael, Red and Logan). But underneath all that silence is a man-in-love. Which is okay, except for the fact that the person he’s in love with is Ari’s younger sister, Freddie. Drama!

Bad Cop: 5 Things You Didn’t Know

BC Website CoverAh! Bad Cop. The one that almost got away. Thankfully, I managed to get our relationship back on track and we finally have a happy ending *cue applause. I bet you’re just as glad as I am that the book is finished though for different reasons. In your head you’re saying, “Thank God. Now we don’t have to listen to her whining about this damn book all the time.” Lol. ‘Tis okay. As long as you’re happy.

Lucas and Brandy were high school sweethearts who reconnect thirteen years later. Lucas is now a cop and Jasmine is a very, very successful financial manager. Given their explosive break up, it’s no surprise that their reuniting isn’t a happy occasion. Worse, the whole thing is shadowed by the death of Jasmine’s assistant. It took a while to get these two to deal with their past as well as solve the murder, but as always Dr. Phil a.k.a. Linda managed it. This be what I do.

You’ve read the book, right? If you haven’t, I don’t even know what to do with you. Go and READ IT. If you’ve read it, then here are a few more facts that might make you smile – or frown.

1: THIS BOOK HAS BEEN REINCARNATED THREE TIMES – I THINK

I don’t even know where to start. Jasmine was originally called Brandy. When the book first appeared, she was a naïve wannabe actress who’d somehow gotten a job as a stripper. Yes, a stripper. In that first reincarnation, she struck up a friendship with a suspicious guy called Rafi, lost her roommate to a serial killer and had a frenemy called Kia who had slept with Lucas in the past. In the second reincarnation, she had a little more backbone, was still friends with Kia but had less of a relationship with Rafi (who now turned out to be the killer). In this reincarnation, all of that is gone. Shoot! I still miss Kia. Should have brought that lady back –lol. She had no shame and didn’t give a flying pig about what people thought of her THOT ways. But she’s gone now. The only constant was that the book was still called Bad Cop. This time when I started the rewrite, I decided to start with a completely clean slate. There are still a few scenes that were pasted from the originals, but there are so few and so heavily edited that I bet those who read all those other reincarnations won’t even recognize them.

2: LUC’S FATHER WAS SUPPOSED TO PLAY A GREATER PART

Originally, I’d intended to give Jasmine an older brother – a dead older brother. If that older brother had actually existed, then Luc’s father would have played a part in his death. As in while Luc’s father was robbing the store that sent him to jail, Jasmine’s brother gets killed in the course of that robbery. Of course that would’ve complicated Jasmine and Luc’s relationship. How do you start a relationship with the man whose father killed your brother? I ditched the whole storyline because it would have taken more than ten chapters to resolve the mess and I was already closing in on one hundred thousand words. But think about it! How would it have worked? Would her mom have even agreed so easily to let Lucas back into their life?

3: MICHAEL WALCOTT COULD HAVE DONE MUCH WORSE TO JASMINE

michael walcottAs you already know, the Michael Walcott is trash. But I was going to make him even trashier. Jasmine is a personal finance manager with a thriving YouTube channel. Teddy offered to get her a radio gig. I was going to give her that and a column with a Buzzfeed like online paper. Michael, with all his money, would then have ruined the whole thing by threatening to withdraw advertisement from the station and paper unless she was fired. His way of making her back off from the investigation. I was even thinking of getting him to pay people to mess with her channel (maybe leave bad comments or spread rumors). I know, I know. I’m as wicked as the Walcotts :D. But just imagine how awful her life would’ve been.

4: IT TOOK ME ONLY A MONTH TO WRITE IT

That’s right. When I started this newest reincarnation, it only took me one month to write 96,000 words. Meanwhile I’d been trying to write it for four years. Starting, stopping….. I think I figured out what the problem was. Because the book was a so mystery heavy, I was scared that people wouldn’t like it. My most well received books have been those that feel more erotic romance and just focus on the characters. But when I started Bad Cop this time, I just told myself that it didn’t matter whether others liked it or not. What mattered was whether I liked it. I told myself not to care about how it would be received or whether people would even buy it and just right. I think that’s what got me to let go of all my fears and just write. Finishing this book taught me that sometimes it’s hard to write just because you’re so conscious of the readers or what income a book will bring. Once you stop thinking of these things and let things be, it becomes much easier to write the story that you want.

5: IS THIS LOVE BY BRIAN NHIRA WROTE THIS BOOK

I know, right? The lyrics have absolutely zero to do with this book and yet for some reason, every morning when I sat at my desk to write it was the only book song that could get the juices flowing. The beginning especially got me (Let’s not even talk about his voice).

Quit playing with my heart

How dare you try to start what you don’t intend to finish

Is this a gimmick you’ve had planned right from the start

Something about those lyrics just connects with me. Maybe it’s because lately I’ve been talking to some guy who is into mind games. One day he is into you, calling like one hundred times per hour, and the next day he just goes MIA. He reappears a week later claiming to have missed you, declaring his love every second. Then disappears again. Right now, I wouldn’t even be surprised to find out that he has a wife and family somewhere out there which is why he keeps disappearing. Anyway, enough about me….. lol…. How you been? Have you read Lucas and Jasmine’s book ? You interested now?

Have You Read Daddy’s Home?

DH Website CoversSometimes, I just love to go back in time. Daddy’s Home wasn’t the first book I wrote, but it was my first dip into the publishing sea. May 2014… Ah! Good times.

It was one of those spur of the moment books. I was just thinking about second chance romance and whether I would really forgive a man who cheated on me if he was genuinely sorry. And thus was born Daddy’s Home.

Zain is an ex-doctor while Lucky is a football player who plays for the New York Firebacks. Lucky gets up to some dirty shenanigans while the team is out of town and ends up impregnating a stripper. Yeah, I know… *wince!

Now Zain has to deal with this lady (which is a very nice term for what she really is). Even worse, she also has to deal with Lucky’s mother who doesn’t like her and makes no bones about it.

One word…. DRAMA!!!!

Do You Know EVERYTHING About How To Catch A Crook? Really?

HTCAC Website CoverI don’t think you do 😀

As you already know, Sin, was the only real crook still left.

The other two, Kelly and A.J, ditched their gray pasts for the straight and narrow, leaving our dear Tamsin as the only knight holding down their crooked fort. Well, it’s her turn to go down now, and I’ve found the perfect man for her. Meet Wentworth Ransom III

I had lots of giggles writing this one. First of all, their names. Wentworth Ransom Iii is such a stuffy name. It seems like something a white collar criminal with zero remorse would call himself. Basically, it’s one of those names that just makes you cut your eyes… and I love it lol. The man himself lives up to his name…. he starts out an asshole but soon you realize that he’s not that much of a dick. Just a little.

As for Sin, I liked the temptation in her name. Her name evokes thoughts of a seductress. Someone who can make you do what you don’t want to do.  She, of course, lives up to her name but more interestingly, she ends up getting seduced. Turning the tables on her was almost as much fun as ruining, Worth’s neat little world by throwing him a crook.

So what exactly happened behind the scenes? What changed while I was writing? What didn’t you know? Hmmm…. A lot.

PS: Spoilers ahead so you might not want to read this until you’ve actually read the book. Find the details HERE.

Okay, onwards soldiers…..

1: WORTH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE DARK

WorthWhen I planned the book, Worth was going to be completely in the dark about Sin’s nefarious plans. Right now, what you know is that Sin ditched her plan to marry and steal from him after discovering Claire’s dirty ways. But in the original manuscript, despite knowing Claire’s motives, she would’ve been unable to cut herself off from the woman.

Miss Tamsin was supposed to go the whole way i.e. seduce him completely until he was in love with her and then ditch him on their wedding day and disappear after leaving him the file to indict Claire. Imagine how heartbreaking that would’ve been for Worth. After thinking about it, I realized that that would mean writing two books, but I’ve realized y’all don’t like stories that don’t end in one book. Am I wrong?

2: SIN’S FATHER WAS GOING TO PLAY A BIGGER PART IN THE STORY

If you read the book then you know, Norman, Sin’s father was dead by the beginning of the book. However, the truth of the matter is that he played the biggest role in making Sin the crook we know her to be. Imagine how interesting it would’ve been to find out what kind of man he really was and if he was even remorseful about what he did to Sin’s mom. Maybe he could’ve even been the catalyst to Sin’s healing. Unfortunately, time run out, but I can’t help but wonder about him. Who was Norman McCarver really?

3: SIN WAS GOING TO BE WORSE. MUCH, MUCH WORSE

SinOkay, the lady is already bad but at one point I considered making her worse. You know, zero remorse, just stealing from people because she can. The idea to make her a kind of Robin Hood came from a friend who always gives me advice after seeing my plans. Her thought was that she didn’t want to read a story about a woman without any sort of moral compass. Plus, as douche-y as Worth can be, he had moral fiber right from the start. It wouldn’t have been fair to him to give him someone truly bad. I agreed. Do you?

4: THE HAPPY ENDING SHOULD’VE COME SOONER

Remember, that scene where Sin went to say goodbye, the plan was to end the book there. Unfortunately, Worth went rogue and just decided to be a bastard instead of wooing his lady like a planned. End result; the book could not end. Then I decided to make him go to New York and apologize. I thought, finally, it’s over. I mean I had already crossed the eighty thousand words mark by then, unfortunately Sin wasn’t ready to play nice either. It took me close to five chapters to get those two kids on the same page again. *sigh. Next time I’ll make sure I create characters who are more obedient.

5: JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE’S ‘MIRROR’ WROTE THIS BOOK

This song, man. This song! Just listen to the lyrics:

‘Cause I don’t wanna lose you now
I’m looking right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart
Is a space that now you hold
Show me how to fight for now
And I’ll tell you, baby, it was easy
Coming back into you once I figured it out
You were right here all along
It’s like you’re my mirror
My mirror staring back at me
I couldn’t get any bigger
With anyone else beside of me
And now it’s clear as this promise
That we’re making two reflections into one
‘Cause it’s like you’re my mirror
My mirror staring back at me, staring back at me

The poetry, the way those words just touch you. I just can’t! It fit Worth and Sin so perfectly. Though it took them a moment to realize that they are meant to be, from day one they just felt right. Don’t you agree?

How To Love A Crook: 5 Things You Didn’t Know

HTLAC Website CoverSo, our second crook, A.J, finally got her own hero. Okay, that might be an exaggeration. If you’ve read How To Love A Crook, then you know that A.J or Amara Justice Nixon as she’s known by the correctional system doesn’t need any heroes. Lee is a breath of fresh air to her life but she’d be good even without him. Basically, she’s good all by herself.

Writing A.J was fun, real fun. I think she’s one my favorite heroines, right up there with Tasha from Not Broken and Mel from Don’t Say No. I’m not saying that I don’t love my other ladies. I love spitfires like London from Wicked Surrender, Zain from Daddy’s Home etc but women who are stealthily strong have a special place in my heart. And A.J is one of these women. She’s one of those women who doesn’t need to announce to the whole world that she’s a strong, black woman. She’s just strong.

So, were there any special things that I didn’t include in the book? Hmm, let me think.

1. A.J COULD’VE BEEN AN ASSASSIN

A.J.Yeah, I know what you just thought: “You’re kidding, right? She’s bad enough as a thief and now you want to make her an assassin too?”

No, I’m not kidding. When I originally envisioned her, I thought of her as this assassin who was really good at her job and had very little remorse. I was going to make her a psychopath of sorts. Think Mazikeen from Lucifer. However, try as I might I couldn’t find a way to justify her being a killer and yet still managing to get out of jail. Also, I didn’t want to have her tormented for life by the lives she’d taken. So I made her a thief.

2. LEE COULD’VE BEEN MORE BROKEN

LeeYou only saw the nightmares he was having. However, in my original script, he had schizophrenia. The man was broken, really broken. I could’ve gone with all that, but I decided not to. Why? It was too much for one person. He’s already been through hell during his childhood, I didn’t feel like making his adulthood troubled too. Can you imagine how A.J would’ve felt had she found out that she ignored him all these years while he was having all that trouble? It would’ve been a nightmare.

3. CASPER WAS ORIGINALLY BEHIND THE FIRE THAT RAZED A.J’S STORE

Yup! In my first manuscript, he’s the one who sent someone to burn up A.J’s store. Why did I change it? Frankly, I was so tired of that douche. I didn’t want to have to deal with him for another two chapters so I just killed his role in the story. Can you imagine having a father like him? I mean I know some fathers out there aren’t the greatest thing but Casper was just…. Wow!

4. SIN MIGHT STILL BE A CROOKSin

Are you as intrigued by this woman as I am? I’m about to start writing Sexy Miss Tamsin’s book and I haven’t decided if she’s still a con woman or not. All evidence points to her still clinging to her crooked ways but sometimes a glimmer of morals show and you’re like…. she might not be as bad as we think. Anyway, I’ll decide soon. Don’t forget to sign up for my Book Club so you know when her book comes out.

5. TAYLOR SWIFT’S ‘LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO WAS ON REPLAY’

Did you just make a face? Shoot! I don’t care. Yes, I listen to Taylor Swift. I’m not a Swiftie (yet) but you gotta admit that despite her ways, the lady has some good music. Why did I play ‘Look What You Made Me Do’? Hmm, I’m not really sure but I think it’s because the lyrics are very IDGAF. Like, I’ll do whatever makes me happy and the rest of you can just keep on running your mouths. That’s what A.J is about. She’s not a limelight kind of girl but she just tends to follow her own road.
